I am so pleased to announce the next Motor Smart Women event, a free course held at Motor Marque in Leeds for female drivers. The course is on Tuesday 27th September at 18:00.
I realised that many female drivers hated going to the garage, some felt they were often the brunt of jibes in a male dominated environment. I have always ran a female friendly business and ensuring everyone gets fair deal with the motor trade is something close to my heart.
In 2006 I devised an innovative free course with three aims: To help keep women safe on the road. To educate female drivers to know what to look for to ensure they don’t get ripped off! And to teach basic car care tips to help save people money and increase the reliability of their cars.
The course is free, fun and light refreshments are provided. You can get as involved as you like, I have found given the chance, most jump at putting some gloves on and getting hands on. The course is held in the heart of the live Motor Marque workshop, with the chance to put cars up on ramps!
We look into why cars need some of things they do and establish a basic knowledge of the modern car. This helps bash through the jargon that baffles so many of us and arms female drivers with some pertinent questions to ask if they do find themselves on the receiving end of a big car bill.
I show the attendees some basic car care tips which can save an embarrassing breakdown or dangerous tyre blow out! Even if you decide not to do the minor checks yourself at least you will now know what mechanics are talking about.
I am really proud of the fact the some of the past ‘Motor Smart Women’ now tell us what their car needs and when. They have told me they feel armed with the confidence to know they are getting a good deal and don’t feel as threatened visiting a garage.
